Welcome!!
“Go to the people. Live among them. Learn from them. Love them. Serve them. Plan with them. Start with what they know. Build on what they have.” –excerpt from Songs of Haiti
Well, I’ve finally done it. Created a blog. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but wanted to have a place where I could easily share reflections, updates and photos with all of you and am hoping that this is the way to do it! Given my limited e-mail access at times, I thought this would also be an easier way for me to keep up on everyone else’s lives as well through comments, etc. It’s all new me, as many things continue to be for me here in the Dominican Republic, but that’s all part of the fun!
While I’d probably choose to change some of the language of the quote above, it touches on the philosophy of listening and learning that I carry with me constantly as I continue to envision the potential presence of Beyond Borders here in the DR. I have learned so much over the past six years or more from people outside of my own country, culture or economic/social class that I can’t help but want to share some of those lessons, experiences and reflections as they unfold for me now in the DR and continue to unfold for me in Haiti and the US. Really, it’s a help for me to be able to share and so, I can only hope, of some interest to you all to read.
Welcome to the beginning of this new forum, I hope it’s enjoyable for all. So far I’ve only gotten around to posting pictures which, unfortunately are a bit of a mish mosh, somewhat out of order and not complete because it’s taken me longer to upload then I expected. That said, I hope it gives a nice sample and I’ll start fresh from here.
I look forward to keeping in touch - your support means the world to me!
In love and peace,
-anna
